The Descendants – Review

Faced with an impossible situation a man does his best to get through it by embracing all that matters to him.

George Clooney stars as Matt King in a film from Alexander Payne.

Payne had a style all his own and I’m a fan. Sideways and Election are two of my favorite films.

The Descendants story takes place in Hawaii which gives the movie a quirky and beautiful vibe.

Clooney’s wife is in a coma from a boating accident.

He turns to his daughters for support and guidance. They set off  on a journey to alert family and friends that they will be pulling the plug on her life.

Before they start out his troubled 17 year old daughter Alex shares a secret with him.

It’s here the film takes off for a funny and touching ride that you will think about long after the credits roll.

What makes the movie interesting is the awkward position all the characters are placed in because they are forced to deal with emotions for a person in a coma that can’t defend herself.

They are left with their own memories and even in light of the new information about what she had been up to in her final days…they need to deal in their own ways.

Clooney is fantastic and his final goodbye to his wife is movie magic.

Sad and beautiful all at once.

This is one of those movies that the less you know the better…so I’ll keep this short.

The Bottom Line…..this is a great  and original movie….watch it.

$$$$- Excellent
