The original Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy from 2004 has become a treasured classic comedy over the years. The goofy and hairy journalist is back for more fun with his crew of misfits. The 70s are over and Ron Burgundy (Will Ferrell) is moving on with his career after being fired. He joins forces with New York’s first 24-hour news channel. The best part of this offering are the first 25 minutes or so. Burgundy travels around reassembling his guys to join the news team. It’s fun to see all of our favorite characters from the original film and discover what silly nonsense they are up to. He finds out the old gang are keeping busy doing everything from selling bat meat, to flourishing as a photographer for Cat Fancy Magazine. Paul Rudd, Steve Carrell, and Christina Applegate all return plus a slew of cameos with everyone from Kanye West to Liam Neeson.
The biggest problem I had with the experience is that it’s way too long. Two hours of this rehashed humor does not help the cause.
There are a few big laughs and with the original film being such a favorite this is worth checking out.
Just lower your expectations and go have a good time.
The Bottom Line…..great to see you guys again, but we have seen this stuff before, only done better in the original.
