Saturday Night Fever DVD

Celebrating its 40th anniversary with a brand new Director’s Cut, SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER debuts on DVD Tuesday, May 2nd. With John Travolta’s electrifying Oscar®-nominated performance, the Bee Gees’ explosive soundtrack and, of course, the unforgettable dancing, SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER captured the angst and brio of the time and had an indelible impact on popular culture.  40 years later, the film about a Brooklyn kid with no prospects who lives for Saturday night continues to be revered and celebrated. Director John Badham worked with Paramount in 2016 to restore the film in 4K using the original negative and update the surround sound mix to further enhance viewers’ enjoyment of the incredible soundtrack. During this process he added scenes to the theatrical R-rated version that round out character and plot, making this new Director’s Cut the definitive representation of his original vision.

I’m giving away 2 Blu Ray copies to my subscribers. I will randomly select two winners tomorrow morning and will contact you via email.

Top Ten Movies of 2016

Top Ten Movies of 2016

It would be nice to reflect on the year of movies and have a difficult time picking just ten films that were worth watching. It does happen, but not often and not this year. These are my top choices after watching most of the movies released throughout the year and way too many the past few months during awards consideration. These ten selections are the films that entertained and moved me the most in 2016. There are a few scares and laughs sprinkled into the mix with a unique sci-fi tale at the top spot. After watching so many films over the years the offerings that stand out are usually the ones that have something original or new to say. If there are films on this list you have not seen, then I hope you get the chance to check them out and you enjoy the experience.

Happy New Year. -Mark

Holiday Movies

Holiday Movies

Why Him?

James Franco and Bryan Cranston star in a comedy with a Meet the Parents theme. Why Him? never reaches the heights of the Ben Stiller/De Niro classic. What it does have is a large dose of toilet bowl humor(literally). The story does take place over Christmas, so you could say it’s a holiday film. It’s the father vs. the fiance and although it’s funny at times overall it’s kind of stupid. I enjoyed this but certainly not for everyone. Read the rest of this entry »
